Perpetual Loop is a down-tempo project of Charles Massey from Manchester, England. I first came across Perpetual Loop performing a dj set in the chill out tent at Offworld festival in 2008. Charles fuses an array of ambient electronica, trance, ethnic, balearic and breakz sounds. After releasing tracks on various compilations Catching Zinc is Perpetual Loop’s debut album and will be released on the 14th of December.

The album open’s with “Release” an ethnic psy-chill number. The track starts very tribal with some nice acoustics and slowly builds into a dreamy layer of looped sequences before dropping pace and introducing a nice female harmony. This track could easily slot into a Twisted Records compilation and was warmly received when I played it in my Whirl-Y-Gig chill out set.

There’s a very ambient trance feel to most of the album. “Simulate Neurons” is reminiscent of Orbital or Underworld’s “Rez” while “King in U” sounds like a mash up of Deep Dish & Prometheus. My personal favourite “Trapped in the Inconceivable” builds very slowly layering loops and fx over lush orchestral synth’s before a hypnotic down-tempo beat kicks in at 2 minutes before taking on an almost Vangelis feel. The title track drops some heavy bass after the piano and synth intro and takes a more psy-breakz direction with sci-fi samples and expertly twisted acid sequences.

Released on Digital Duvet on December the 14th
