BudNubac is the project of Nightmares On Wax keyboardist Robin Taylor-Firth. A melting pot of traditional Cuban sounds fused with Jamaican dub (hence the anagram of Cuban dub). This concept isn’t too far from the roots of Cuban music. Which in it’s self developed from the mixed ancestry of the island utilising the percussion instruments of Africa, the guitar from Spain and naturally incorporating sounds from neighbouring islands and the United States.

Que Se Yo has been re-released by Blanco Music as a predecessor of the long awaited follow up album “See The Sun Rise”. Robin has drafted in a range of vocalists and musicians to the project which has added an authentic flavour to the album. Additional percussion has been added to the re-release by Shovell (of M-People fame) who has recently joined the project.

Que Se Yo takes the listener on an intrepid journey. From the opening track “Buenos” where you can easily picture yourself in a smoky Havana piano bar.
With “Fluty Loops” you discover a jazz band style flute combined with bass heavy dub. While the aptly named “Hey Senorita” releases rump shaking Latin rhythms to fill the dance floor. I’d draw comparison to some of Thievery Corporation’s more Latin numbers and I would recommend this album to fans of the Latin and Dub genres.
